The Evolution of the ActivRange

The ActivRange was born from the success of Activ8, RNP’s groundbreaking product. As demand for Activ8 grew, it became clear that the rubber industry required specialized solutions for different applications. In response, RNP expanded the Activ8 technology, developing a range of targeted variants to meet specific customer needs.

Each product in the ActivRange is built on the proven Activ8 core technology, backed by years of research and development. The range includes:

  • Activ8 – Optimized for rubber manufacturing efficiency and performance
  • ActivH₂O – EU water-safe formulation for compliance and safety
  • ActivZnØ – Zero-zinc solution for “water eco-conscious” and other applications
  • ReActiv8 – Designed for sustainable recycling and material reuse

With the ActivRange, RNP continues to drive innovation, offering tailored solutions for a rapidly evolving industry. Environmental sustainability has always been adhered to as a bare minimum when developing any RNP product, creating better products for a better world.

ActivH₂O

ActivH₂O is RNP’s specialized water-safe variant, developed in response to the exclusion of (NaBEC) under EU water safety compliance regulations. While many countries follow FDA water safety standards, which Activ8 meets, ActivH₂O was designed to ensure full compliance with EU-specific requirements.

ActivH₂O is built on the Activ8 foundation, so whether adhering to EU-compliance regulations or FDA-approved solutions, RNP has the right product for your needs.

ActivZnØ

ActivZnØ is RNP’s zero-zinc variant, developed to address the environmental risks of ZnO leaching from rubber products. Over time, zinc oxide (ZnO) can contaminate waterways—rivers, lakes, and oceans—posing a serious threat to aquatic life.

While Activ8 already reduces ZnO content by up to 90%, ActivZnØ takes it further—completely eliminating zinc oxide for a sustainable solution.

Studies in Norway (NILU) have shown that ZnO runoff from 3G football pitches near coastal areas has led to toxic waterways, harming marine ecosystems. Additionally, zero-zinc solutions are crucial in agriculture, where daily washing of rubber matting can create aquatic toxicity issues.

With ActivZnØ, industries can adopt a safer, environmentally responsible alternative—protecting ecosystems while maintaining high-performance rubber applications.

ReActiv8

ReActiv8: The Future of True Rubber Recycling

The rubber industry has long classified recycling as reusing small amounts of rubber crumb in formulations, bonding crumb into low-grade products, or utilising rubber as a fuel for incineration. But at RNP, we saw these methods as purely repurposing and reusing—not true recycling.

We refused to accept the status quo and reimagined rubber recycling from the ground up. The result? ReActiv8—the first truly circular rubber recycling solution.

Unlike conventional methods, ReActiv8 reforms sulphur bonds, seamlessly integrating recycled crumb with virgin rubber for superior-performance rubber products.  Blended at 2%-4% with recycled rubber crumb, ReActiv8 enables a replacement of virgin material with recycled content on a 1:1 basis with up to 90% recycled content, setting new standards for sustainability and innovation in rubber manufacturing and recycling.

ReActiv8 also reduces ZnO content input into formulation –  content present is from existing crumb and a reduced input.

ACTIV8 – THE CURING SOLUTION

Activ8 introduces a groundbreaking transformation in the rubber curing process, offering unparalleled advantages in curing and final rubber properties for sulfur-based diene rubbers. This innovative technology influences every stage of rubber production, from the selection of curatives and mixing processes to energy efficiency and final product properties.

ACTIV8:

Activ8 leverages a proprietary ionic liquid system that effectively dissolves all rubber curatives, surpassing the limitations of traditional surface particulate chemistry used in rubber curing for over a century. This breakthrough enables unmatched dispersion of active species throughout the rubber matrix, resulting in highly efficient coordination during both the curing phase and crosslink formation. The implications are significant, reducing the number of curatives required, lowering energy demands, and streamlining the curing process for the optimized system.

ACTIV8 DIRECT BENEFITS:

The introduction of Activ8 enhances cure rates and optimizes vulcanization reaction kinetics, leading to the following effects:

  • Reduced cure time as cure rate increases
  • Energy savings in relation to reduced cure time or reduced cure/press temperature
  • Improved dispersion of cure active components in rubber mix
  • Improved vulcanisation properties such as UTS and modulus
  • Opportunity to reduce ZnO content and still achieve desired modulus
  • Dropping zinc reduces/eliminates blooming
  • Decreased mould fouling
  • Adhesion in rubber-metal bonding is improved
  • Improved Rolling Resistance. Tan Delta values will lower by at least 10%.

CO-ACTIVATORS FOR SUPERIOR PRODUCTION & PERFORMANCE

The Acti range of products are used as coactivators for improved curing at reduced zinc levels. The products give unique modifications to existing properties and can broaden design parameters of formulations.

  • Zinc reduction eliminates blooming by lowering Zn-Wax complex formation
  • Zinc reduction improves mold fouling behaviour by reducing ZnS formation
